The former DPW worker fired this week for alleged anti-gay
postings on a Facebook page said he has a right to say his views and called the
situation “blown out of promotion.”
Contacted by Maplewoodian.com, Sam Falcetano Jr. said
he should not have been let go.
“I think it’s blown out of proportion, it is one big
mistake, a debacle,” Falcetano, a 19-year public works employee, said by phone Friday.
“It’s First Amendment rights, it’s my beliefs and they [the township] are wrong.”
Falcetano declined further comment, saying his union would
take care of the situation and any action that might follow.

Township officials have declined comment, saying only
that Falcetano no longer works for the township. Mayor Vic De Luca reportedly
stated at Tuesday night’s TC meeting the comments were “appalling.”
