SCHOOL BOARD UPDATES ON SUPE SEARCH, CIVIL RIGHTS AND UNION TALKS

School Board President Beth Daugherty updated the district on the superintendent search process Monday night, as well as the U.S. Office of Civil Rights complaint that was recently filed and resulted in the plan to hire a consultant to remedy the problem.

She also said upcoming school district teachers union contract talks appear to be starting off on a positive note.

She told the board Monday night that negotiations with the South Orange Maplewood Education Association are already being planned for February. The union currently has  a two-year deal that expires in June 2015.

Added Daugherty:  "There's a very solid intent to begin ... that is very good news."
