MEET MAPLEWOOD'S NEWEST PHOTO ARTIST

Maplewood resident and dad Michael Lehrer is the latest creative force to go pro in our Township.

Lehrer recently launched his photography business, DJMikel Photo, with a website touting his great work and offering it up for sale.

Check him out HERE.

Lehrer is also the hubby of one Holly Evans, the former Rockette and local dance instructor we interviewed last December about her days with the high-kicking chorus.

Are they a new creative power couple in town?

GREAT SAFETY ARTWORK EVENT TONIGHT

CHS students did a similar project this past spring
From the Nikhil Badlani Foundation (NBF)

You are invited to the unveiling of traffic safety artwork created by the children at Maplewoodstock. Please come and marvel at the creativity of these children. This artwork is sponsored by Nikhil Badlani Foundation and funded by State Farm Insurance.

Time: 7:30 PM
Where: DeHart Community Center; 120 Burnett Avenue, Maplewood, NJ 07040

Nikhil Badlani Foundation (NBF) was set up in 2011 to honor the memory of a 11-year-old boy, Nikhil, who was killed in a car crash in South Orange when a driver failed to stop at a STOP sign. The mission of the Nikhil Badlani Foundation is to provide free music lessons to under-served children, academic scholarships and raise traffic safety awareness for all.

The Foundation is committed to teen driving safety. The students are educated about the dangers of distracted driving by engaging them in an immersive exercise of creating artwork on traffic safety. Through art, students are able to learn about a very serious issue in a fun way.

NBF Initiatives in Maplewood/South Orange:
  • Educated Columbia High School (CHS) students through artwork on road safety
  • Partnered with NJ Transit to run PSA using CHS artwork. Currently running in buses, Light Rail and Maplewood, Mountain, South Orange and other train stations.
  • Donated reflectors imprinted with “Drive Smart. Save a Life.”
We hope you will join us at the unveiling and be our partner to make our roads safer for all.

10-15 STUDENTS TO BE IN FIRST CHS SUMMER GRADUATION

From the School District:

We are proud to let you know that we going to have an August graduation this year, for what appears to be the first time in CHS memory and/or history.  This August graduation ceremony is for students who are finishing up some credits and work this summer in our summer programs who were not ready to graduate in June.

There are a small number, probably 10-15, of students currently eligible for this ceremony, and some of our students who were out-of-district in special education placements may choose to participate as well. We are looking forward to sharing this accomplishment with them, and making sure it is a memorable occasion. The ceremony will take place in our CHS auditorium at 10 am on Wednesday, August 19th. There will be a processional, music, speakers, and of course the conferring of the diplomas.
