Where: DeHart Community Center; 120 Burnett Avenue, Maplewood, NJ 07040
Nikhil Badlani Foundation (NBF) was set up in 2011 to honor the memory of a 11-year-old boy, Nikhil, who was killed in a car crash in South Orange when a driver failed to stop at a STOP sign. The mission of the Nikhil Badlani Foundation is to provide free music lessons to under-served children, academic scholarships and raise traffic safety awareness for all.
The Foundation is committed to teen driving safety. The students are educated about the dangers of distracted driving by engaging them in an immersive exercise of creating artwork on traffic safety. Through art, students are able to learn about a very serious issue in a fun way.
NBF Initiatives in Maplewood/South Orange:
- Educated Columbia High School (CHS) students through artwork on road safety
- Partnered with NJ Transit to run PSA using CHS artwork. Currently running in buses, Light Rail and Maplewood, Mountain, South Orange and other train stations.
- Donated reflectors imprinted with “Drive Smart. Save a Life.”
