CHS LOCKER SHORTAGE TO CONTINUE AT LEAST A WEEK

The lack of lockers for some Columbia High School incoming freshman is likely to continue for another week, according to Principal Elizabeth Aaron, who explained that the delay is due to summer construction that limited access to some areas of the building.

She said via email:

We are still replacing some old ones we could not access during summer construction,
and are even taking delivery of some new ones the week of Sept 28.

Aaron also sent a letter to ninth grade parents on Monday reminding them that students can have their belongings secured in the dean's office until they are assigned a locker.

See the letter below:

Thank you for your continued patience and support of CHS.

We most regret that some of our 9th graders are still without a locker, and they will be assigned those lockers when a last and final set of new ones are installed early next week.

In the interim, should your student need to leave any materials or equipment during the day, they can report to our deans’ offices, A239, and let Ms. Bunch know that they are a 9th grader who is waiting on a locker. Ms. Bunch will secure and store their belongings until students need them at lunch or after school, and students need simply to return to that office to get what they need.

Please do be sure that your student has taken OUT of his or her backpack any textbooks that have been distributed by teachers with the indication that those books can and should be left at home as they are not needed for instruction during the school day.

If your student uses a musical instrument, there is storage for those in our instrumental music rooms. Should he or she have athletic equipment, that can be left in our Athletic Director’s office, which is open every morning at 7:20. This is where there is storage for students at all grade levels for athletic bags and equipment that does not fit in hallway lockers. That office is located between our teachers’ mailroom and the Domareki Art Gallery on the first floor.

There are administrators at the front doors and in the hallway every morning at CHS to welcome our students at both our 7:20 and 8:15 bell entries. Please encourage your students to find us to ask any questions they have.

Thank you,

Elizabeth Aaron, Principal
Terry Woolard, Assistant Principal, Class of 2019
