Two local real estate developments will be on for discussion at tonight's Township Committee meeting, but for different reasons.
First, an item is on to allow Avalon Bay, which is building the new 235-unit apartment complex at the former PSE&G site across from the Maplewood Pool, to rent space at the Maplewood Pool offices and lease parking space at the pool from the Township.
The other item is a discussion of the next move for the troubled Daibes retail/apartment complex at Burnett and Springfield avenues that has been delayed yet again.
Mayor Vic De Luca said at the last TC meeting that the project was essentially dead and the Township needed to decide how to go forward.

These are disturbing proposals, reflecting Vic's spectacular cronyism and incompetence in managing developments here.. Avalon should scale back and provide their own parking. The pool lot is already full Summer weekends. And the Daibes Project has been a disaster ever since Vic approved them for the site.
