TUSCAN THIRD GRADE CONTROVERSY STILL AN ISSUE ON DAY ONE

We told you last week about some Tuscan School third grade parents upset that six classes of second graders from last year were being put into five classes for third grade this year.

They requested that an additional class be added. Superintendent John Ramos said at that time that the issue was still being reviewed.

On Thursday, students were placed in five classes of 24 students each, according to parents who said that is what they were told by Principal Malikah Majeed. This would be higher than the class size for these students in second grade and at the maximum allowed according to the district policy that states the classes should have a minimum of 17 and a maximum of 24.

District Spokeswoman Suzanne Turner would not reveal the number of classes and students, stating via email, "students are still enrolling in our schools so we will have an update on enrollment for the board at their next meeting."
