MAPLEWOOD WINS ROUND ONE IN DOWNTOWN SHOWDOWN VOTE

The campaign efforts of many in the Township, led by Mayor Vic Deluca, have Maplewood winning round one in the Downtown Showdown at New Jersey Monthly, with a victory over Summit.

Eight towns emerged victorious in the first round of New Jersey Monthly’s Downtown Showdown, presented by Kings Food Markets. Hoboken, Montclair, Princeton, Maplewood, Morristown, Red Bank, Somerville and Cape May won their Week 1 matchups and advanced to round 2. The new round began today and ends at noon Monday, September 14.

Give New Jerseyans a chance to express their opinions and they come out in droves. Spurred on by local social media campaigns, Garden Staters weighed in on their favorites among the 16 contending. More than 64,600 votes were cast statewide.

The initial group of 16 downtowns was chosen by the editors of New Jersey Monthly. For the Week 1 voting, the 16 were matched up based on population. Hoboken topped Jersey City, Montclair defeated Westfield, Princeton beat Ridgewood, Maplewood bested Summit, Morristown eclipsed Asbury Park, Red Bank outfoxed Collingswood, Somerville surmounted Haddonfield and Cape May edged out Lambertville.

Jersey City, Westfield, Ridgewood, Summit, Asbury Park, Collingswood, Haddonfield and Lambertville were eliminated.

Now comes Round Two, which pits us against Princeton. Get out the vote again.
