TOWNSHIP LOSES OUT ON FORMER CHURCH SITE

The Township was willing to pay up to $400,000 for the former Maplewood Baptist Church site across from De Hart Park, but lost out in its bidding for the parcel, according to Township Attorney Roger Desiderio.

We told you on Sept. 3 that the Township had eyes on the land, which Mayor Vic De Luca hoped to utilize as a De Hart extension.

Desiderio told the governing body at Tuesday's meeting that the Township was outbid at the Sept. 10 auction by another, unidentified church, which put up $410,000.
