MAPLEWOOD VILLAGE DOWNTOWN SHOWDOWN CELEBRATION PLANNED

Maplewood Avenue may not be the Canyon of Heroes, but it will see something of a celebratory parade soon, according to Mayor Vic Deluca.

After spearheading efforts to win the New Jersey Monthly's Downtown Showdown earlier this month, Deluca this week announced plans for a celebration to be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14 in the Village.

"We are trying to get the high school marching band to do a parade down Maplewood Avenue and celebrate and merchants are going to have specials and have a good time that night," the mayor said at Tuesday's Township Committee meeting. "We are going to have a celebration in Maplewood Village.

As you may recall, Maplewood Village won the downtown battle online in a multi-round contest in which we beat Summit, Princeton, Montclair and Morristown.
