POST OFFICE DEMOLITION SITE FENCE KNOCKED OVER

Less than a month after the demolition crew at the former Maplewood Village post office site knocked a pole down and into the street, a large portion of the fencing around the site came down Sunday.

Police on the scene said they did not have a cause for the incident, which brought down most of the fencing along Maplewood Avenue. The site saw an earlier accident on May 19 when the pole was knocked into the street

This also comes a day after crews at another site where a new Wawa Market is being built hit a gas line, sparking an evacuation of two buildings in the area of Chancellor and Springfield avenues and spreading a strong gas odor in that area.

The post office demolition is making way for a new three-story, 20-apartment, five-retail store complex expected to open in 2017.

The fence was back up by the end of the day Sunday, with yellow caution tape in place.
