7-11 WANTS STORE ACROSS FROM CHS

The News-Record reports that a 7-11 that drew opposition in the past is going into the gas station across from Columbia High School, it will be the third in town, if it is approved:

Convenience store giant 7-Eleven plans to open a third location in Maplewood — at a gas station on Valley Street — a year after saying it was not interested in the site because it could not stay open 24 hours per day.
Attorney Louis Rago, who represents the owner of the property, said June 25 that in a best-case scenario, the store would be built before the start of school in September. A gas station will remain at the site, along with an 1,800 square-foot store.
A spokeswoman for 7-Eleven did not have a commenet readily available June 26.
However, Mayor Vic De Luca said the Shell Gas station site is the “wrong spot” for a convenience store. He said that area of Valley Street and Parker Avenue already is heavily trafficked with motorists and pedestrians.
