VIDEO INTERVIEW - MEET CHS PITCHING PHENOM DANNY BOEHMER

In his short career, Columbia High School sophomore pitcher Danny Boehmer has thrown three one-hitters, earned All-American honors, posted an ERA that would make Mariano Rivera envious, and sparked the interest of major league scouts from Toronto to Atlanta.

And he's still not old enough to vote, drive or go to an R-rated movie.

But he's not in a hurry, according to coaches who say the 16-year-old right-hander works hard and puts in the time to be as good as he is.

Danny first made a splash last season with a one-hitter and other notable accomplishments as a freshman. So far this season, he is 5-0 with a .42 ERA, a 90 Mph. fastball, a second one-hitter and five complete games.

See his stats HERE.

That kind of production has not only helped the baseball team to an 18-1 record, but propelled Danny into the national spotlight among scouts for both college and professional teams.

Talent-seekers have been coming by Underhill Field from the likes of the University of Miami and St. John's University, as well as the Atlanta Braves, Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland Indians.

He was also a 2015 Under Armour All-American, playing in that pre-season tournament and plans to play in another in June. The tournament website said of him:

The only (Class of) 2017 pitcher to post a velocity higher than 86 mph was Danny Boehmer, who topped at 90 mph. He works from a unique delivery, offering the look and feel of the stretch with a step back towards first base to start his motion.
Though he stands at 5-foot-10, his arm works through a big and deep move from the glove and out front. His delivery and arm action are coordinated, allowing him to generate the arm speed needed for upper 80s fastball velocity and for a mid to upper 70s breaking ball.

He threw a lot of fastball strikes, while his secondary offerings found the zone a little less frequently. His curveball got better as his outing went along, with his later ones showing more consistent shape and depth. Over the course of four innings of work, he struck out six against a single walk, and allowed just four hits.

We caught up with Danny at practice Wednesday, where he discussed his love of the game, his training routine, plans for the future and which players are his favorites.

His next start is at today's 4 p.m. match against Nutley at Underhill Field in the Greater Newark Tournament. Come out and root him and the Cougars on!
