Highland Place, the Maplewood Village restaurant named for the street it's on, will move closer to re-opening on Tuesday night when the Township Committee considers a liquor license transfer from the restaurant's former owners to the owner of the building it occupies.
The TC, acting as the Maplewood Alcohol Beverage Control Board, will consider approving the transfer of the liquor license for the site from Nilsatis Inc., which owned Highland Place, to 5 Highland Place Associates, owned by Masoud Kian, who owns the building.
It's unknown what Kian will do with the license. He could reopen the location for service, transfer it to another entity, or keep it unused.
The TC also will consider another liquor license transfer to Wine Barrel Maplewood LLC, representing 1886 Springfield Ave.
Highland Place, which closed in August 2014, lost its license after the state seized it for failure to pay taxes. It was initially set to be auctioned off, but that was postponed after the transfer was initially discussed by both parties.
The TC meeting is set for 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Maplewood Police Headquarters. The late start is due to National Night Out events. See the agenda HERE.
