SUNDAY MORNING ENGINE NOISE BAN LIFTED FOR STORM CLEAN-UP

Mayor Vic Deluca has lifted the usual Sunday noise ordinance ban on snow removal and lawn maintenance engines for this week given the emergency nature of the storm.

The noise ordinance bars the use of such machinery before 11 a.m. on Sundays, specifically for contractors or other outside businesses conducting such work, not specifically for homeowners. We reached out to the mayor and asked if it will be imposed Sunday given the snowstorm.

He responded:

Chapter 181 of the Maplewood Township Code deals with Loud and Unnecessary Noise. Due to the emergency nature of this storm, any noise related to the clean up of snow is necessary. Furthermore, the prohibition of "equipment having constant running engines" before 11am on Sunday has to do with an "enterprise or business" not a home owner.

We also asked Township Adminstrator Joseph Manning, who emailed:

Technically it is but practically in terms of plows and snow blowers and so forth, a complaint would need to be made and the township would have to respond. All our resources are now geared towards helping the township be safe and getting back to life as usual as quickly as we can.
