TOWNSHIP TO BUY FORMER CHURCH FOR $400,000

The Township has negotiated to purchase the former Maplewood Baptist Church on Burnett Avenue next to De Hart Park for $400,000, Mayor Vic Deluca revealed during Saturday's special budget meeting.

"We have successfully negotiated a price of $400,000 for the property," Deluca said Saturday. "All in, nothing in addition."

The TC approved a resolution, 5-0, to authorize the conclusion of the deal and authorize Township Administrator Joseph Manning to move forward with a bonding ordinance to pay for it.

We told you last week that the purchase was being negotiated after previously being considered, but lost at auction. Deluca has said in the past the site could be used to expand activities at De Hart, either within the existing building or a new facility.
