The Township stray cat trap-neuter-release program has successfully treated 145 strays during its first year in operation, Health Officer Robert Roe reported this week.
But Township Commiteewoman India Larrier, who also serves as Board of Health chair, said the program needs more specific data and reminded those overseeing the program that unregistered and untrained volunteers who participate can be cited.
At Tuesday's TC meeting, Larrier directed Salene Sachs of Furry Hearts Rescue, which administers the program, to improve the reporting.
You may recall the program -- which seeks to find so-called feral cats, spay or neuter them and return them to the streets -- was controversial when it was adopted in late 2014. And just last month Roe indicated the volunteer pool was low.
Still, Roe said at Tuesday's TC meeting that the program had done some positive work:
