TC APPROVES FIRST STEP TOWARD PROPERTY VALUE REASSESSMENT

The Township Committee on Tuesday night took the first step toward conducting another property value reassessment, voting to authorize Township Attorney Roger Desiderio to negotiate with South Orange to share the cost of the review.

The TC voted, 5-0, for the authorization after both towns were directed by Essex County to conduct the reassessement during 2016, with the new property values affecting taxes in 2017.

Desiderio said the reassessment will require whichever firm is hired to inspect each property in town, both private homes and businesses inside and out.
