COLUMBIA HIGH SCHOOL'S OWN CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM IS A HIT

Jacob Hirsch may not be Larry David, but he does a great imitation.

Hirsch, a 17-year-old Columbia High School junior, is one of the co-creators of CHS' own version of David's popular HBO Series, Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Along with partner Ben Krueger, also a junior, Hirsch has co-produced and starred in four episodes of the local version, with a fifth to be premiered at a special Curbathon event later this month at CHS.

"My dad has been a fan of the show and he showed it to me," Hirsch, a South Orange resident, said about his interest in the original show. "I have known about it and watched it for a while, but last year I was in a TV production class."

He said the class assigned each student to do their own version of a popular show. Hirsch had found his choice.

But once the assignment ended, he wanted to do more. Teaming up with Krueger, they wrote, directed and starred in four episodes, which run from five to 20 minutes or so each.

"I thought we could take this to a new level," Krueger said. "Do more of a series out of it and make it our own show."

Hirsch has David's Curb character down, from his neurotic annoying attitude to the funny scenarios he puts the character in. And there are also fun shots of South Orange and nearby areas.

Faculty Advisor Anthony Campiglia, a veteran of Fox News and ABC News, has been teaching television production at CHS for 10 years. He said Hirsch and Krueger's work hits the high mark.

"They really blew this thing up and went all out," Campiglia said. "I try to let them have as much creative control as possible."

If you want to see all four episodes, and the new fifth finale, head to the Curbathon on Thursday, April 21 at 6 p.m. at CHS' Black Box Theater. See more info HERE.
