MAPLEWOOD'S FIRST GAY MARRIAGE CELEBRATION BLOCKED BY THE STATE

Just hours after announcing a great same-sex marriage celebration and the first gay weddings for this weekend following the court ruling, Maplewood is being thwarted by state blockades.

See this note from Mayor De Luca this afternoon:

After sending out our announcement, the Township received a notice from the state that we are not yet permitted to issue marriage licenses. They are awaiting further instructions from the Supreme Court. This matter is very fluid and the Township is prepared to make licenses available whenever the state give the okay. Ceremonies will be scheduled as soon as possible once licenses are issued.
