We first broke the news of this Valley Street burglary on Wednesday.
Today, Maplewood Police released more information on the great widespread search response and and an alert for the suspect:
On
11/12 at approximately 12:20 PM, officers responded to the 700 block of
Valley St on a reported burglary. The resident arrived home and
observed an African American male, described as 20-25 years old, short
and wearing a red checkered shirt exiting
her driveway.
The male then ran South on Valley St. Damage was observed
to the rear door of the home by the resident who then contact the Police
Department.
Officers arrived on scene and checked the home. Additional
Maplewood officers as well as Millburn and
Union PD officers assisted in setting up a perimeter and searching for
the suspect. Essex County Sheriff was contacted and sent a dog in an
attempt to track the suspect.
Some of the proceeds from the burglary
were recovered in the brook behind Enterprise Car
Rental. The dog began tracking the suspects scent but eventually lost
the sent on Millburn Ave. After an extended period of time, the search
was eventually discontinued. The detective bureau is actively
investigating this case.
