The Township Committee Monday night approved the hiring of a new public works director, R. Calvin Bell, who is currently in that post in Keyport, N.J.
Bell told us last Friday he is looking forward to serving Maplewood. He replaces veteran DPW chief Eric Burbank, who is leaving the job to help care for his son, Ryan, who was injured in a paralyzing accident two years ago.
Bell, a Maplewood resident, starts Dec. 8.
The TC also approved parking changes at 195 Maplewood Avenue, which will soon house the Maplewood Village Post Office, after it relocates from the current location for a retail-housing development. The new restrictions will limit parking to 20 minutes in some spots.
