ONLY ONE DEMOCRAT AND ONE REPUBLICAN FILE TO RUN IN JUNE TC PRIMARY

Frank McGehee
It looks like Maplewood will have a boring primary election for the Township Committee with just one candidate each running in the Democratic and Republican primaries.

When the deadline to file for the TC seat primary passed at 4 p.m. today, only Frank McGehee had submitted to run in the Democratic primary, while Republican Michael Summersgill was the lone candidate in the GOP race.

McGehee, a veteran of the Maplewood Library Foundation Board and the Community Coalition on Race, must have scared off the competition after The Maplewood Democratic Committee overwhelmingly endorsed him at its March 21 meeting, giving him 26 of the 28 votes cast that night.

He also has the support of both former Mayor Fred Profeta and Mayor Vic Deluca.

Michael Summersgill
Summersgill is an eight-year Maplewood resident and an engineer who currently serves on the Maplewood Pool advisory committee.

The candidates are vying for the Democratic and Republican nominations in the June 7 primary.

The Democratic and Republican nominees will run in the general election in November to replace TC member Marlon Brownlee, who has chosen not to run for re-election.

Anyone who wants to run as an independent candidate in November has until June 7 to file.
