BIG SNOW EXPECTED THURSDAY; WHEN WILL SCHOOL BE CALLED OFF?

A big snow storm is set to hit tonight, with 6 to 10 inches expected in our area.

Get those snow blowers ready and await the calls and emails about a snow day or other cancellations for Thursday. Wonder how early the school district will call for the day off?

See the National Weather Service warning below:

WINTER Storm Warning REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 6 PM EST THURSDAY...
  • Accumulations: 6 to 10 inches of snow...locally higher.
  • Locations: New York City, Long Island, Southern Connecticut, the Lower Hudson Valley and Northeastern New Jersey.
  • Hazard type...Heavy snow.
  • Timing: Late tonight through Thursday.
  • Impacts: Hazardous/dangerous travel due to snow covered roads and poor visibilities. Blowing and drifting snow is likely. Local power outages with downed trees and powerlines possible.
  • Winds: North 10 to 20 mph with gusts 35 to 40 mph.
  • Visibilities: One quarter mile or less at times.

A Winter Storm Warning for Heavy Snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. We will have updates as they come on all affected activities in our area.
