Maplewood Police issued this alert Friday.......
Subject: Thefts from Unlocked Vehicles and
Nighttime Burglaries
Date: April 6, 2012
LOCK YOUR VEHICLES AND HOMES-AND
..IF YOU SEE SOMETHING- SAY SOMETHING"!
The Maplewood Police Department is currently investigating recent
Thefts from unlocked vehicles and Burglaries in various
neighborhoods throughout the township. The Theft incidents are
primarily occurring between the hours of 11PM and 7 AM. Various
personal property items are being stolen including cash and coins,
GPS navigation devices and other small electronics.
Although Maplewood Police have recently arrested one known
offender for several of these recent crimes, the Thefts from
unlocked vehicles and Burglaries are continuing.
In light of these continuing incidents, I urge all residents to
improve their home and auto security and prevent these crimes by
doing the following:
1. Lock your homes and vehicles every night
2. Immediately report suspicious persons or suspicious activity to the
Maplewood Police Department by calling 973-762-1234
3. Remove GPS units and other valuables from your vehicles
4. Consider installing motion activated exterior lighting or
illuminating your parking area and entrances to your home nightly.
These crimes are a priority for the Maplewood Police
Department. Additional police patrols have been assigned to
suppress these crimes but we need your help.
It offered no details, however, on what the recent crimes have been specifically. But a discussion on MOL points to some activity involving unlocked cars around Parker Ave.
