CONTROVERSIAL NBC NEWS REPORT ON TUSCAN SCHOOL SAFETY ACCESS BROADCAST TODAY

The Today show this morning broadcast the controversial school safety report in which NBC News reporter Jeff Rossen improperly gained access to Tuscan School and roamed the halls in an effort to claim that student safety was at risk.

The incident, which occurred last Thursday, has sparked harsh reaction from the school, parents and others, including plans for a meeting tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Tuscan to address the issue.

After a PTA official contacted NBC News, the show agreed not to identify the school. But as you can see below, the report shows the reporter illegally roaming the halls and attempting to make Tuscan appear as some unsafe hazardous place.

The piece has several journalistic problems in that by failing to identify the schools involved, it sparks concern among other parents who might wonder if it is their school. He also made one visit rather than several to see if the poor security is a pattern or a one-time incident.

In addition, one wonders why police were not called when the reporter admitted who he was and that he had lied to gain access.
