SUPERINTENDENT TO TUSCAN PARENTS: "I HEAR YOU"

About 75 concerned parents at Tuscan School grilled Superintendent Brian Osborne and other district and school officials Wednesday night about the recent incident in which a television reporter was allowed access to the school and was able to roam the halls for several minutes.

See background on the issue and the eventual TV news report HERE.

Osborne, Principal Malikah Majeed and others listened to the parents and others ask why the NBC News reporter was allowed in, was not reviewed prior to entry and that such concerns about easy access were raised a year ago by several parents after the Newtown, CT shooting, but apparently not addressed.

Osborne and Majeed both agreed mistakes were made and apologized and said procedures were being reviewed. But parents were adamant that change be made quickly and that some kind of policy be in place so that visitors need to do more than buzz in to the office from the front door.

Also at the meeting was District Building and Grounds Supervisor William Kyle who seemed defensive at some points and pushed his view that it is up to teachers and parents to keep an eye out.

Officials also said the issue would be discussed at next Monday's Board of Education meeting and the addition of a security guard at the school entrance would be considered.

The Board of Education will discuss the issue at its regular meeting on Monday, Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m.
