After its cancellation last year because of Sandy, the very popular
Secret Shoppe will be back this year from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, Saturday
December 7, 2013, at Prospect Presbyterian Church (c/o Tuscan &
Prospect in Maplewood).
What is the Secret Shoppe?
An event sponsored by Prospect's Presbyterian Women's
organization where young children can shop in secret
for gifts for their family/relatives. Most of the gifts are in the
$1-$5 price range. Parents or other adult brings the children and
fills out a shopping list of who the child needs to buy gifts for, and gives them money
and turns them over to volunteer "Elves" who help them shop and pick
out items for those on their list. Gift wrapping is also provided.
Meanwhile, there is a waiting area for the adults with
refreshments and where they can browse the SERRV shop to purchase
reasonably priced hand crafted goods made by thousands of small-scale
artisans in Africa, Asia, Latin America and other developing regions of
the world. SERRV International sponsors sales like this to provide a
market for the products made by these artisans so they can support their
families.
