From Barnabas Medical Health:
Meet N.Y. Giants Super Bowl Champion George Martin during a tailgate party and free preventive health event, which is being sponsored by Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBIMC).
The event will be held at the Maplewood Country Club, 28 Baker Street in Maplewood on Monday starting at 6:30 p.m.
“This is our third year hosting Men’s Health Night with The Beth,” said John A. Brennan, MD, MPH, President and Chief Executive Officer of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children's Hospital of New Jersey and Executive Vice President of Barnabas Health. “The idea to focus on first responders came after Superstorm Sandy, when we were reminded of the value of fire, police and first responders and the importance of them being healthy at all times to respond to emergencies. Since that time, we have opened Men’s Health Night to all men – the goal is to host a fun event for men that also encourages them to take charge of their life.”
Dr. Brennan said the Medical Center decided this was an excellent opportunity to launch a men’s health initiative. By using a sports venue, it encouraged greater participation. More than 200 men have participated in Men’s Health Night since the program began in 2012.
"Monday Night Football and Men’s Health Night with The Beth" begins at 6:30 pm. Men will have an opportunity to hear George Martin followed by presentations from four physicians from NBIMC, followed by health screenings, massages, health information and finally Monday Night Football and the tailgate event.
The evening will continue at 8:30 pm, participants can cheer as they watch a broadcast of the National Football League's (NFL) New York Giants, along with free refreshments, prizes and giveaways.
Mr. Martin, a legendary defensive lineman, who played for the N.Y. Giants from 1975 to 1988 will speak with participants. He was team captain in January 1987 during Giant’s Super Bowl XXI victory over the Denver Broncos. Mr. Martin’s presence at the event combined with the screenings and health information are designed to encourage men to make their health a priority.
