SCHOOL BOARD REPLACES PRESIDENT DAUGHERTY WITH EASTMAN

In a close vote Monday night, the Board of Education chose to remove four-year president Beth Daugherty from the top post and replace her with veteran board member Wayne Eastman.

The vote occurred during the annual reorganization meeting where new board members Elizabeth Baker, Donna Smith and Maureen Jones joined the governing body for the first time.

In the 5-4 vote, Ms. Daugherty was joined in the losing side by Jones, Baker and Stephanie Lawson-Muhammad while Mr. Eastman won with his own vote as well as those of Smith, Madhu Pai, Jeffery Bennett and Johanna Wright.

Daugherty, who served as president since 2011, remains on the board to serve out her term that ends in 2017.
