TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE CONSIDERS POST OFFICE PROJECT CHANGES TONIGHT

We told you late last year that the Township Committee was planning to allow the Post Office redevelopment project to be changed, especially to allow parts of the retail/housing to be taller and eliminate the 10% affordable housing requirement.

The TC will consider a formal ordinance allowing those and other small changes at tonight's regular meeting set for 7:30 p.m.

Mayor Vic De Luca also told us that the Township, which owns the land, is still negotiating a sale price and is considering a "payment in lieu of property taxes" for JMF Properties, which has won the right to develop the land.

The payment would include a graduated scale of 0% the first year, 20% the second year, 40% the third year, 60% the fourth year, 80% the fifth year and the entire 100% beginning the sixth year. But he stressed it has not been approved by the TC.
