DISTRICT PARENT SURVEY DRAWS COMPLAINTS

We told you about the school district parental survey out this week.

You can take it HERE.

But some are not happy about the following question:

What is you race or ethnicity?

• African American (Not Hispanic)
• American Indian or Alaska Native
• Asian or Asian American
• Hispanic or Latino
• Pacific Islander
• White or Caucasian (Not Hispanic)
• Other or Multi-Ethnic
• Not applicable, not sure, or decline to answer

First, because it is grammatically incorrect: not a good thing when the district is trying to look professional. 

Second, it does not take into account homes with parents and children of different races. In our community, more sensitivity is needed.

Perhaps the district should rethink its survey company when this kind of sloppiness is seen.
