Maplewood Police issued further information on the lockdown and gun incident at Maplewood Middle School on Wednesday.
A new release Thursday evening indicated the student who was apprehended was a 7th Grader, age 13, who brought a 9mm. loaded Glock handgun to the school with hollow point bullets.
It also indicated the investigation has not revealed any evidence that he was targeting any specific person or persons.
He has been permanently removed from MMS and charged with possession of a weapon on school property, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, and possession of penetrating bullets. He is being held at the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center.
