WAWA PRESENTS PLANS TO TC; CONCERNS AIRED

The proposed Wawa Market on Springfield Avenue near the Irvington line was the topic of a lengthy discussion at Wednesday night's Township Committee meeting, as representatives from Wawa offered a presentation of the plans and their company and some residents offered concerns about the 24-hour aspects of the store.

Mayor Vic Deluca indicated that the TC plans to offer an ordinance that would change the current limits on gas stations -- which bar them between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. -- to allow 24-hour operation.

But he said the TC would also seek to change the designation for the rest of Springfield Avenue from highway business to pedestrian, which would allow the 11 p.m.- 6 a.m. restriction to remain in that area, while permitting 24-hour gas for the Wawa portion.

Wawa hopes to break ground on the project before the end of 2015.
