It looks like the Township's legal costs related to the former Maplewood Village Post Office development project are going up with plans to increase the allocation for legal fees tonight by another $7,500.
The Township Committee initially allocated up to $10,000 in June for the legal fees related to the Maplewood Village Alliance's defense in a related lawsuit. If the resolution up for review tonight is approved, the total allocation will reach $17,500, according to Township Attorney Roger Desiderio.
See the resolution notice below:
1. RESOLUTION NUMBER 162-15
RESOLUTION INCREASING THE ALLOCATION TO THE MAPLEWOOD VILLAGE SPECIAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT, INC. FOR LEGAL FEES
(various matters involving the Maplewood Post Office site)
The MVA, which is a Township entity, gave approval to the three-story, 20-unit, five-retail shop complex earlier this year. That sparked a lawsuit from Village Keepers Inc. claiming proper procedures were not followed.
Although that lawsuit was dropped, Village Keepers still opposes the plan and has continued to fight it during the ongoing Planning Board review.
Tonight's meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall, 574 Valley St. See the full agenda HERE.
