Less than three years after the Deals store opened at Springfield Avenue and Tuscan Road with great fanfare, it's set to change to a dollar store outlet.
When the former auto dealership site was converted to the discount variety store in April 2013, locals and township officials praised the move. Deals is a cut above a dollar store and close to a mini Wal-Mart with groceries, hardware items and home goods.
But Dollar Tree Inc., which owns the 222 Deals stores nationwide, announced in October it planned to convert all Deals outlets to either Dollar Tree stores or Family Dollar stores.
Company spokesman Randy Guiler told us Monday the change would occur sometime in the first half of 2016. He said the Deals would become a Dollar Tree store and confirmed nothing inside would be more than $1.
