MAYOR WANTS TRASH HAULERS TO PASS ON THEIR NEW SAVINGS TO RESIDENTS

The cost of dumping garbage for the two companies that collect trash in Maplewood is going down, according to Mayor Vic Deluca. And he wants their fees charged to residents to go down, too.

At Tuesday's Township Committee meeting, Deluca revealed that the tipping fees charged to Waste Industries and Waste Management by the county to dump refuse in their transfer station have dropped from $82.99 per ton to $80.92 per ton.

He directed Township Attorney Roger Desiderio to send a letter to both companies on behalf of the Township asking if they would pass on the savings to customers.

TC Member Kathy Leventhal also stressed not to let the companies claim fuel costs have gone up at a time when such prices are down.
