CHS POOL CLOSING PROMPTS ONLINE DONATION FUND

The big news last week that the Columbia High School pool was slated to be closed after the current school year to make way for more academic space has already prompted a petition aimed at stopping the move, with 1,700 signatures so far.

Now we find there is an online collection being taken up to help offset the cost of perhaps renovating the pool. That fund is already nearing $1,000.

David Cutler
The online collection is being organized by former swim team captain and 2014 CHS graduate David Cutler.

He writes, in part:

All I ask is to take your experiences in this community, everything stated above, and the traction garnered of the petition to craft your own individual opinion and act on it. Whether that’s signing, commenting, sharing, donating, or supporting our cause even further, any bit of help is greatly appreciated. The students do not have the taxpaying perspective of the parents in our towns, so please keep that in mind.

However, ask your children how the lifeguards have connected with them through the years, how exciting it was to experience an undefeated Girls swim team, and how rich in history Columbia is when it comes to where our school has stood culturally through the arts within Northern New Jersey over the past century.

This and other budget issues are likely to come up at Monday night's second school board budget hearing set for 7:00 p.m. at the board offices, 535 Academy St.
