SCHOOLS BUDGET ESTIMATED TO INCREASE BY $23 MILLION IN FIVE YEARS

As the school board prepares to introduce a $125 million budget at tonight's meeting, with $111.78 million of it raised via your taxes, estimates indicate the budget will increase by about $23 million over the next five years.

In the latest budget documents released prior to tonight's meeting, district officials estimate the expense side of the budget, currently at $125.7 million for the 2016-2017 school year, will jump to $130 million the following year; $134.4 million in 2018-2019; $139.7 million in 2019-2020; $145.4 million in 2020-2021; and $149.1 million in 2021-2022.

But revenues do not appear to be increasing at the same rate. The estimates indicate that by 2021-2022, when expenses reach $149.1 million, revenues will be at $137 million under the current projections.

Tonight's meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. at the board offices, 525 Academy St. See the full agenda HERE.
