Police revealed today that the incident occurred at 7:28 p.m. Monday when NJ Transit called officers to the station where a "large group" of high school-aged males and females were on the train and "some of the individuals were throwing bottles, using excessive foul language and engaging in an exchange of words with individuals from rival schools," police stated in a report.
The report went on to say, "officers from the Maplewood Police Department as well as South Orange and New Jersey Transit boarded the train to resolve the problem. The group complied to instructions given by officers and order was restored with the exception of one adult male from Morristown who was arrested and charged with improper behavior."
The train was later allowed to continue with NJ Transit officers aboard.
MorristownGreen.com reported that the train was stopped for about 40 minutes and many of the students were from Morristown High School and were on their way to a championship hockey game against Randolph High School at the Prudential Center, which Morristown won, 2-0.
