EAGER SKATEBOARDERS TRESPASS TO USE UNFINISHED SKATE PARK

Some skateboarders on Saturday did not want to wait for the official opening of the new Maplecrest Park skate park, bypassing police tape and ignoring signs that warn the park is off limits and that trespassing will be punished.

The $135,000 renovation replaced the older wooden ramps with new concrete facilities. Construction began in May and was due to end August 7.

But with police tape circling the park and signs warning "violaters may be prosecuted," it appears skateboarders are not welcomed, yet.

And is the township at risk for liability if insurance does not cover injuries on a facility that is supposed to be off limits?

Of course, if they want eager skateboarders to stay away, something stronger than yellow tape might be in order.
