The Township Committee tonight will discuss changes to the redevelopment area near Chancellor and Springfield avenues, in part to allow for an affordable assisted living facility.
Mayor Vic Deluca first raised the idea at the last TC meeting in February, noting it would likely include up to 170 units for affordable assisted living. Also included would be adult day care and medical offices.
"We
have a lot to negotiate," he said at the meeting. "We need to know if we think it is a good idea to
continue to pursue this. If it is can we change the redevelopment plan
to allow these uses?"
The TC then gave initial approval to further review of the idea, which is on the agenda tonight as a discussion item. Specifically, the governing body will discuss "engaging" a professional planner to review the redevelopment area change for Area 2.
No formal plans are being reviewed, but Deluca hinted that it could include four buildings of four or five stories each in the area.
"We've seen success at Winchester Gardens, this is clearly a different price point," he said.
TC Member Nancy Adams said, "this is a need for people who want to stay, who want to grow old in this area. Right now there is not an option."
Tonight's meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall. See the full agenda HERE.
