SCHOOL BOARD PRESIDENT: ANTI-HATE EFFORTS REMAIN "TOP PRIORITY" AFTER RACIST MESSAGE FOUND

We told you yesterday about the racist images found at South Orange Middle School and the investigation into their creation.

In reaction, School Board President Elizabeth Baker issued the following statement to Maplewoodian.com:

I cannot comment on a pending investigation but
I can say that the Board and Administration have affirmed,
and reaffirmed, our commitment to ensuring that the civil
rights and human dignity of every child and every adult
in our school community are respected.

Hate, prejudice and intimidation have no place in our inclusive
educational community. The wave of recent of bias incidents
both nationally and locally underscore how urgent the antibias
and restorative justice work that we are doing in
our schools is.

This work must remain a top priority not only in our schools but
throughout our SOMa community.
