TOWNSHIP SEEKING TO LIMIT USE OF PORTABLE STORAGE UNITS

The Township Committee plans to tighten restrictions on portable storage units, or PODS, that are used to store items outside of private homes.

The TC on Tuesday will further discuss a proposal that would limit their use for six months at a time, and ban them from being placed in front yards or on driveways behind the front of a home.

"The (Township Committee) code committee discussed the issue of pods remaining on driveways, seemingly indefinitely some of them," TC Member India Larrier said at the last TC meeting in February. "We have come to the conclusion that we need to regulate them a little better."

The issue is on the agenda again Tuesday for discussion.

"This would force the registration of pods and no individual could keep them for more than six months," Mayor Vic Deluca said at the last meeting.
