From NJ.com today:
Four people were arrested Monday after Essex County Sheriff's officers caught them inside a carjacked vehicle, authorities said.
According to Sheriff Armando Fontoura, members of his Patrol Division
were conducting regular quality of life operations on the 400 block of
South 16th Street when they spotted the 2013 Kia Optima.
"The vehicle had been reported carjacked in the city earlier in the day," Fontoura said.
Officers approached the car and apprehended the four occupants —
20-year-old East Orange resident Kasaan Harris, two 17-year-olds and a
15-year-old. All were booked on a single count of receiving stolen
property.
Shortly thereafter, police discovered a 2011 Honda Accord on the same
block. The car had been reported stolen after a carjacking in Maplewood
Sunday night.
Fontoura said detectives with both Newark and Maplewood are investigating whether the carjackings may have been related.
Harris and the three juveniles were all processed and released after being issued summonses.
