NEWARK — One gun was disguised as a pen, delivered by an anxious mother afraid her young sons might find it and accidentally hurt themselves.
Another was brought in by a divorcee who said she didn’t want her ex-husband owning a firearm. A third gun came from a woman who found it tucked away in her laundry room — a place her child could easily find it — just days after her husband promised to dispose of the weapon.
Each of the 1,770 guns turned in during a two-day buyback in Essex County last weekend had a story and Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa wanted to make sure none of those tales ended in tragedy.
