We noted earlier that there was unusually high number of write-in votes for Township Committee in Tuesday's election, 138.
It turns out most of them, 120, were for Township Committee Member Jerry Ryan.
You may recall Ryan lost in the Democratic Primary to retain his seat, with challengers Nancy Adams and Greg Lembrich winning the nominations. They both won the general election on Tuesday and will take office in January, replacing Ryan and fellow incumbent Kathy Leventhal, who did not run for re-election.
Ryan made no formal effort to run as a write-in candidate, but there was a Maplewoodonline campaign to get votes on his behalf.
Among the other names written in were Planning Board Chair Tom Carlson, Village Keepers Inc. Leader Dirk Olin and even Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse.
