TEACHER'S UNION MEMBERS RATIFY NEW CONTRACT

Teachers union members celebrate after ratifying a new contract at CHS
We told you last night that the school district teachers were voting on a new contract that would also be up for approval by the school board tonight.

The South Orange Maplewood Education Association (SOMEA) announced online that the two-year contract had been ratified by its members, but offered no details on raises or other specifics.

It will run through the end of the 2016-2017 school year.

The school board will vote on the contract at a special meeting tonight at 6:15 p.m. at the board offices, 525 Academy Street. Under state law, public notice for special meetings can be given in a shorter period of time, but must be within 48 hours.

District Business Administrator Cheryl Schneider said the notice was given on Sunday, sent to newspapers and posted on the district website.
