SCHOOL DISTRICT ISSUES UPDATE ON ACCESS AND EQUITY POLICY CHANGE

The school district issued this update on its new access and equity policy, and what it will mean:

Board Adopts New Policy on Access and Equity
Approved at the October 19, 2015 Board of Education Meeting

In a landmark moment, the Board of Education unanimously adopted a new Access and Equity Policy. Dr. Ramos said that this "allows us to finally break the cycle of discussion that has stymied this district for decades and sets the needed tone for our learning community." The policy can be read here.

Now the hard work begins of implementing this new policy.  Next steps include:
  • Soliciting community input on what the new policy should look like in action.
  • Revising Academic Placement Policy 2314 to align with the Access and Equity Policy.
  • Determining exactly how the new policy will work and revising Academic Placement Regulations to reflect the resulting changes.
  • Communicating new procedures to students and families so that everyone knows how the policy affects them and what to expect for next year.
This work is the District's top priority, and we will regularly update the Board and the community on progress towards completing it in time to schedule students for classes for 2016-2017.
